Welcome Back
by Stephen Pegg - Monday, 14 June 2010, 08:03 AM

Welcome back to all Y12 students after your exam leave and to those Y13 students still here on revision days. I hope that the modules are going well.

I hope that you are impressed by the latest area of the College to have been developed - a new atrium with links to rooms on the first two floors . Your new social space has a really peaceful feel to it, and connects nicely with the new Exhibition Hall and the new Dining Areas. The contractors have done a fabulous job completing it on time.

• Please treat this and all the new areas with respect - although I know you always do.
• Please have a good look round and take your time to find out where the various nooks and crannies lead to - it is full of surprises!

The former East Wing has been renamed the St Bede Building. The rooms will be re-numbered and there will be new signage installed over the summer.

By the end of August, we hope that we will have completed the next phases of our building plans, and they will be just as impressive. This work will hopefully include

• A new College Reception area
• A remodelled Library (both the first and second floors)
• A new suite of rooms for ICT/Computing
• A new suite of rooms for Psychology

With best wishes for the remaining exams and for the last few weeks of term.

Steve Pegg

PS The next few weeks will be busy ones with many pupils in for their Y10 Taster Days - thank you in anticipation for making them so welcome.

CNC Prayer for the Week

Let the rain come and wash away
the ancient grudges, the bitter hatreds
held and nurtured over generations.
Let the rain wash away the memory
of hurt, the neglect.
Then let the sun come out and fill the sky with rainbows.
Let the warmth of the sun heal us wherever we are broken.
Let it burn away the fog so that we can see each other clearly.
So that we can see beyond labels, beyond accents, gender or skin colour.
Let the warmth and brightness of the sun melt away our selfishness.
So that we can share the joys and feel the sorrows of our neighbours.
And let the light of the sun be so strong that we will see all people as our neighbours.
Let the earth, nourished by rain, bring forth flowers to surround us with beauty.
And let the mountains teach our hearts to reach upward to heaven. Amen

Thanks to Debbie and the Faculty of Sport, Travel & Health for the prayer.

  • Signed five months before the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty was a result of negotiations aimed at reducing the nuclear arsenals of the US and the USSR. In 1991, at the conclusion of two sets of talks, US President George H.W. Bush and Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev agreed to a reduction of the Soviet Union stockpile from 11,000 to 8,000 nuclear weapons and of the US arsenal from 12,000 to 10,000. How many warheads is each country estimated to have today? Discuss
